Impact

Shapers of Kerala

Problem Statement: There are several changemakers in Kerala who do social impact work. However, there is a significant opportunity to spread awareness about their work to a larger part of society. Through the project Shapers of Kerala, the Kochi Hub aims to find such individuals, cover their stories and promote them on social media to spread awareness about the social impact work done by changemakers in Kerala.

Target audience: Changemakers of Kerala, non-profit, NGO Founders, Community leaders. The hub aims to create awareness about the good work and inspiring ideas that are taken up by young entrepreneurs who have ambitions of sustainable social impact. The hub hopes to collaborate with more such ambitious and innovative minds who can inspire our viewers to take risks, pursue their passions even if it may not be conventional, and carve a space to keep social impact and change in mind as they enter career spaces or pivot to their passions.

Hub activities: Global Shapers Kochi uses its network to find suitable individuals to interview and promote. Once interviewed, the hub will release the interview on social media and spread the word. The hub has a dedicated team to contacting changemakers, scheduling in-person interviews with them, preparing the most educational questions, capturing quality video shots of the interview, and dedicating an interviewer from the hub. Once the hub captures the live process, hub member have the project team work on video editing and uploading to Kochi Hub's social media handles. Other activities include:

  • Find the changemakers in Kerala doing socially impactful work

  • Increase impressions and engagement for the series on social media platforms

  • Organize fundraiser campaigns for non-profits, NGOs and communitiies seeking funding

  • Collaborate with governmental bodies to increase the reach of these initiatives

Available metrics:

  • Till date, the hub has covered three changemaker stories:

    • Anagha Rajesh - an undergraduate researcher at BITS, Goa who founded a youth-led organisation to provide mental health resources accessible to people.

    • Nisha and Tanja - the founders of Abhayam Animal rescue and welfare, Kochi.

    • Anand and Peter - Founders of Just.Play - a sports for development non-profit based out of Ernakulam, Kerala.

  • The first first three videos have garnered over 4,500 views on our social media platforms.

Measurable goals:

  • Number of interviews and changemakers from diverse social impact fields supported

  • Impressions and engagement received on the interviews

  • Amount of money collected during fundraising activities

Long-term goals: Although our home state, is a high literacy state, entrepreneurship and calculated risk-taking have not been skills that are effectively promoted by society. There is less encouragement to go into less tried and tested fields or untouched waters and this limits our potential to become pioneers in many niche fields. The social media space holds the opportunity for viewers to quickly take in information that can be quite effective. To attain the goal of spreading awareness about emerging changemakers, the project team for Shapers from Kerala has strategically planned the project with outreach, communications, live-station and video editing, and social media teams to streamline the process of capturing the most impactful stories of young changemakers and effectively delivering it to a social media audience. The hub also actively supports viewers with approaching showcased changemakers to receive advice, contribute to their impact area and potentially act as the path towards professional growth for many.
