Impact

Shaping Fashion Hyderabad

The sprouting of innumerable fast-fashion brands coupled by aggressive marketing strategies and the ease of online shopping; constantly tempt and lure the consumers of today to purchase more than what they require. This high demand has led to making the clothing and textile industry the second largest polluter (after oil) of our planet. The average buyer is unfortunately completely unaware of this staggering statistic and continue to indulge in excessive consumption via retail purchases and in turn result in negatively impacting the environment. We as consumers have to re-evaluate how to minimize the impact of our fashion choices. The first step for us, in this process, would be to choose options like “thrift shopping”, “borrowing”, “make-it-yourself” and “cloth swapping”, before defaulting to purchasing “brand new”. In an effort to promote the above, the GSC-Hyderabad Hub plans to host the city’s first-ever clothing swap event on April 28, 2018.
