Social inclusion has become an acute issue among the many challenges posed by the rapid development of society, and job inclusiveness for women, especially the lack of women in the leadership positions, is a global challenge that needs local solutions. Women in China generally have high levels of education and a high labor force participation rate, yet very few are taking leadership roles across industries. We believe that cognitive limitation is one of the most important factors of such challenge. Thus, Global Shapers Beijing Hub initiated SheShapes Fellowship program in 2020, aiming to equip young female in China with better understanding of the latest developments and employment environment in various industries, including tech, consulting, academics, and more, and empower women to tap into their dream industries and prepare for the leadership roles in their early career stages.

 

Now, SheShapes is developing towards a female empowerment organization that strives for improving the landscape of inclusive jobs in China and achieving SDG goals in quality education and gender equality. The program provides ambitious young female aged 18-28 with systematic career training programs to improve their capacity to make better life and career decisions. We recruit 30 SheShapes Fellows as each cohort of our two-month training program and invite 15 top-tier leaders and domain experts on average for each program to provide insights and career development guidance on the selected industries, coupled with intense group projects every week and a hackathon challenge by the end of each program.

 

To date, SheShapes has successfully launched 4 featured programs - SheShapes Tech Series I & II, SheShapes Consulting and SheShapes Academia Series I, and we are working on the 5th one – SheShapes Academia Series II. We have attracted over 1,000 young female applicants in total, and directly impacted 130+ SheShapes Fellows, building a community of around 150 fellows and executive members. We have provided accumulatively 60 hours of training courses by over 60 domain experts. In addition, our presence at Davos Lab Beijing attracted 2,400+ online viewership. And we also collaborated with GYSESumit hosted by Chengdu Hub this year.

 

Organization-wise, we are transforming from a program to a platform. We have opened the opportunities for Shapers beyond the Beijing Hub and people beyond the Global Shapers Community to initiate new programs out of their interest at SheShapes.
