Strategic Skills for the agriculture of the future

Problem Statement & Target Group

Unemployment reached unprecedented levels during the COVID-19 pandemic in Costa Rica, increasing for all educational levels but particularly for women and young people. Additionally, its been widely documented in literature that soft skills such as leadership, analytical thinking, problem solving, empathy, communication, amongst other can improve a persons's employability profile and will become increasingly valued in the job market of the future.

Proposed Solution, Hub Activities & Collaborators

In this context, during 2021 Global Shapers San José Hub in partnership with Earth University, IDB Lab and Walmart created the program: Strategic Skills for the Agriculture of the Future, building on the Hub's prior experience with the project Skills for Employability.

Short & Long-term Goals/Results

This program aimed to enhance human talent in a group of 26 individuals', from ages 18-36 located in rural areas of Costa Rica: Hojancha, Carrillo, Sarapiquí and Bijadua, employability profiles through 10 workshops focused on soft skills development and igniting interest in agriculture, its potential for the future, and agency to create the "agribusinesses of the future."
