Sustainability Today Beijing Hub II

Problem Statement: 

To bridge the information gap among different stakeholders and facilitate priority discussions to inspire collective and urgent action in solving the sustainability issues of today, specifically in South and Southeast Asia.

 

Target Group: 

Policymakers, business and industry experts, community leaders, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

 

Proposed Solution: 

Establish an intelligence platform for knowledge-sharing, -construction and -creation to help design a replicable framework which will address sustainability issues through fostering collaboration for collective action.

 

Hub Activities:

1. First Sustainability Topic - Waste (October 2022 - June 2023)


MARKET RESEARCH (October 2022)


  • White Papers: Gather market and technical information, latest insights, recent innovations, obstacles and challenges within the waste sector 

  • Waste Expert: Tap into waste experts who could provide guidance and in-depth knowledge

  • Identify Partnerships: Connect with private and public sectors (governmental, non-governmental, civil society organizations, and academes) 


LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS (November - December 2022)


  • Partnership agreements: After identification of potential partners, we will sign agreements with each partner for manifesto creation. 

  • Manifesto Framework: We will develop an initial manifesto framework with our partners which will serve as a reference point for our future planning and implementation. Three manifesto frameworks will be developed accordingly 

  • Event Planning: After the framework is developed, a plan will be finalized for all events to be executed in the coming months. 


EXECUTION (January - February 2023)

  • Dialogue and Discussion: We will curate events to facilitate discussions with stakeholders, including policymakers, business and industry experts, community leaders, and aspiring entrepreneurs, in the format of interviews and panel discussions, to have engaging dialogues on varied waste topics. 


MANIFESTO (March - April 2023)


  • Co-Creation of Manifesto: Based on the research and discussions, we will co-create the manifesto with waste experts and partnered organizations. The initial draft submissions will be due by March.  

  • Co-Launch of Manifesto: After a comprehensive preparation of marketing strategy and planning, we will co-launch the manifesto together with our partnered organizations 


May - June 2023

IMPACT TRACKING:


  • Conduct surveys and/or Focus Group Discussions: We will gather feedback to understand the impact created 

  • Impact Report: Using the impact metrics created, we will develop a report to assess if the goals were met.

 

2. Cross-Hub Collaboration and Sustainability Topics Main Framework (July 2023 - October 2024)

POST-DOCUMENTATIONS


  • Framework Creation: 

  • Cross-hub collaboration: We will create a specific framework and set guidelines, standards, and benchmarks on how other hubs and communities can get involved in this project 

  • Sustainability Issues: We will co-create the framework within the chosen sustainability topic set by the collaborating hubs, to ensure quality and impact of the execution and overall project delivery

 

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results

Short term goals will include:


  1. Identification and Agreement with Partners

  2. Establishment of Expert Committee

  3. Waste Manifesto

  4. Main Framework for Cross-hub Collaboration and Sustainability topics


Long term goal is to help facilitate initiatives (Investment & technological implementation frameworks and policy recommendations) through manifesto creation and collaborations centered on sustainability issues.

The short term (6-12 months) metrics will include:


  • # of experts tapped within the community

  • # of community leaders connected

  • # of people this project mobilized

  • # of sessions held

  • # of partnered organizations

  • # of manifestos created

  • # of reads/ sharing/ downloads

 

The long term (10-24 months) metrics will include:


  • # of hubs involved in the cross-hub collaboration

  • # of initiatives created from manifesto and collaboration

  • # of funds mobilized for initiatives

  • # of framework creation for sustainability areas

  • # of successful framework replication

  • # of countries reached

 

Collaborators: 

The organizations the hub has collaborated with in the past include Greenpeace, Dataway, and Indus Earth Trust. The project team is looking to collaborate with other organizations such as the World Economic Forum, Climate Reality Organization, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), The Circulate Initiative, WWF, Ellen Macarthur Foundation, UN bodies, Green Climate Fund, Climate Policy Initiative and more. Other Global Shaper hubs that will be leading this initiative with Karachi Hub include Beijing Hub II and Davao Hub.
