Warawa Living Lab Water

Problem Statment

A small community, called Warawa located in Kano state, suffers from the lack of access to potable water, which poses a great threat to their survival as a community. As a result, women and children have to travel a far distance to access water used for drinking, cooking, and other domestic use. some members of the community get water from a water body, which is unhygienic as it is being contaminated by open defecation by humans and animals. This problem affects the general well being of the community individuals, the education of the children, increasing the gender disparity as well as a devastating effect on their health.

Proposed Solution

The Kano Hub of the Global Shapers Community in partnership with Natview Foundation for Technology Innovation executed a project aimed at providing potable water for drinking, cooking and other domestic purposes, by creating a sustainable water system driven by technology. A borehole water system powered by solar energy was created, accompanied by a 20,000 litres tank for storage.
