Different Contexts, Common Aspirations

About

Background
Young people live within different social, economic and cultural realities, yet many share common aspirations: access to quality education, decent work, meaningful participation, inclusion and opportunity.
However, these aspirations can mean very different things depending on context. For one young person, access to education may mean simply having a school to attend; for another, it may mean whether that education leads to decent work. Participation may mean being invited into the room, or having the power to influence what happens in it.
This International Youth Day, we ask: Our contexts differ. But do our aspirations?
The programme will bring young people and stakeholders together to explore how different realities shape shared aspirations and what these realities can teach us about creating more inclusive opportunities for young people.

Objectives

The programme aims to:
 • Explore the common aspirations of young people across different contexts.
 • Examine the realities and barriers shaping access to education, decent work, participation and opportunity.
 • Create space for young people to share their lived experiences and perspectives.
 • Encourage meaningful conversations on how institutions and communities can better respond to youth aspirations.

Format
A moderated virtual conversation featuring diverse perspectives, interactive dialogue and audience participation.

Expected Outcome
Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences in young people's realities, and practical reflections on what it takes to turn shared aspirations into meaningful opportunities.
